When: Saturday 7 May – Sunday 15 May during Centre opening hours
Where: Ripley Town Centre, between BWS and Valley Skin and Beauty
About the photographer:
A self-taught photographer, Richard McLaren’s photographic career began after his diagnosis of Post Traumatic Stress attributed to his service in the RAAF and deployment to Vietnam in 1969-70. After his diagnosis in 1995, Richard used photography as his coping strategy to get through the worst part of the health crisis and found it to be a very effective, self-managed psychotherapy. So successful was his therapy, with the assistance of Disabilities Queensland, that he developed a basic photography course which to date has been used to train over 400 people with a disability, mental illness or who are from at risk community groups.
This exhibition has been put on as a community service and to raise awareness about Therapeutic Photography and PTSD.
